Alene Jeanette (Lundfelt) Burrows, 88, of South Renovo passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Bucktail Medical Center.
Born November 16, 1932, in Renovo, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Viola (Coover) Lundfelt. Alene came from a very large family and was the last living Lundfelt.
Alene graduated in the class of 1950 from Renovo High School. She married Arnold E. “Hefty” Burrows, Sr. on May 3, 1952 at the Zions Evangelical Lutheran Church in Renovo, where she was also a lifelong member. The couple shared over 57 years of marriage together until Arnold’s passing on August 23, 2009.
After high school, she worked for Bell Telephone as a switch board operator until rotary phones were introduced in Renovo. Alene then went to work at the Renovo Hospital, on 9th Street, as an admission clerk and telephone operator. When Bucktail Medical Center opened, she transferred over to work in the business office.
Her family remembers her as a talented seamstress, organist, and pianist. She enjoyed watching TV and listening to the music of her era.
After spending 50 years at her residence at 551 Pennsylvania Avenue in South Renovo, she became a resident at Bucktail Medical Center on March 18, 2009. In her 12 years there, she loved attending activities such as BINGO, arts and crafts, reminiscing of Renovo in the past with other residents, and watching the deer from her window. In the last year, she especially enjoyed greeting visitors at her window.
Alene is survived by her son, Arnold E. Burrows and wife, Debra of Mill Hall; two daughters, Lizabeth A. “Beth” Getz and husband, Robert “Bob” of South Renovo, and Holly R. Cowfer and husband, Charles of Pennsdale; four grandchildren, Robert “Rob” D. Getz, Jr. and wife, DeAnna, Chuckie Cowfer, Collin Cowfer, and Holden Cowfer; two great-grandchildren, Bransen Getz, and Adilyn Getz; numerous nieces and nephews; and a childhood/lifetime friend, Barbara Shaffer. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 10 brothers, William, John, Marvin, Eugene, Donald, Melvin, Fullmer, Robert, Victor, and Charles; and three sisters, Mildred Short, Ida Bopp, and Viola Hess.
A memorial service will be private at the convenience of the family. Maxwell Funeral Home in Renovo has charge of arrangements.
A special acknowledgment to the staff at Bucktail Medical Center for the special care and love they have given her these past 12 years. We are most grateful, especially this hard last year.
Memorial contributions may be made toward the replacement of window blinds at Bucktail Medical Center, 1001 Pine St., Renovo, PA 17764.
