George A. Mills, Jr.

George A. Mills, Jr., 82, of Renovo passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Bucktail Medical Center in S. Renovo. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Bratton) Mills.

Born March 31, 1937 in Renovo, George was the son of the late George A. and Martha E. (Jones) Mills, Sr. After graduating from Renovo High School in 1954, George served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959.

On August 24, 1957 George married the former Barbara A. Bratton and the couple shared 62 years of marriage together. When he returned from the Navy, George worked various jobs including, Capital Coach in Renovo and the Pennsylvania Railroad. He went on to attend Williamsport Area Community College from 1968 to 1970 and graduated with a degree in Forest Technology.

In 1970 he began his career as a forester with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, where he worked until retiring in 1996. George loved the mountains and streams of the Renovo area and was a lifelong hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed woodworking, music, and family gatherings.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, George is survived by two sons and one daughter, George R. (Karen) Mills of Hyner, Tracie A. (Kevin) Hirlinger of Mill Hall, and Matthew G. Mills, Sr. of Renovo; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Thomas G. Mills of Renovo.

Services are private at the convenience of the family. Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 5th St., in Renovo is in charge of arrangements.
