Joan A. (Shroat) Summerson

Joan A. (Shroat) Summerson, 80, of Drury Run passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at her home. She was the wife of the late Ralph S. “Tubber” Summerson who passed away on March 7, 2020.

Born December 7, 1940 in Renovo she was the daughter of the late George C. and Rose A. (Aikley) Shroat. Joan was of the Methodist Faith all of her life.

On December 22, 1972, she married the man of her dreams, Tubber, and the couple shared 47 years together.

She made her life as a homemaker, taking care of her family and baking. She was known for her nut roll, that was always in high demand, as well as fudge, and Tubber’s favorite cake. In years past, Tubber and Joan enjoyed stopping for coffee at various places around town where they were often joined by dear friends.

Joan adored spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren - who lit up her life. She loved to shop for gifts for her family and was always overjoyed to give them.

Joan is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly and Jackie Lucas of Renovo; five grandchildren, Korrie (Greg) Funk, Courtney (Chad) Myers, Eugene (Colett) Shinn, Lindsey (Jim) Shinn, and Lucas (Chelsie) McHenry; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Cindy (Harold) Bower; one brother, George (MaryLee) Shroat; and the fur-babies she loved, Gabby, Belle, Rascal, and Daisy. In addition to her beloved husband, Ralph, and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Shroat.

A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at First United Methodist Church, 7th Street, in Renovo with Pastor John C. Baney officiating. Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 5th Street, in Renovo has charge of arrangements.
