Patricia K. (Kring) Bickel

Patricia Gail “Pat” (Kring) Bickel, 78, wife of Shuman Bickel, of Avis, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at Manor Care, Jersey Shore, PA. Born in Johnstown on January 30, 1941, Pat was the daughter of the late Maurice (Slim) and Evelyn (Wilson) Kring.

Pat was a graduate of Chestnut Ridge High School in Fishertown, and a graduate of Lock Haven University. She began her teaching career at Chestnut Ridge Elementary, then following her marriage to Shuman on June 15, 1963, she moved to Avis and started her teaching career in the Lock Haven School District. She received her certification in Library Science from Kutztown and Lock Haven Universities. She retired from a lengthy career in education after serving 37 years, as a teacher and librarian.

Pat is most remembered for her long career as a majorette and band front coach for Lock Haven, Bald Eagle Nittany, and Hughesville High Schools. She was also the founder of the Spectrum Twirling group. Pat also held numerous twirling and modeling competitions, and worked with the local Miss America Pageant.

She, along with her sister, Sandra, were co-authors of “From Sea to Shining Sea, The Kring Family Genealogy”. Pat also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, and sewing, having made hundreds of flags, band front, and competition uniforms for “her girls”. She also took pride in her flower and vegetable gardens, having entered numerous entries at various fairs, bringing home many blue ribbons.

Pat is survived by her husband, Shuman, her brother, Errol Kring, and wife, Joy, of Boyertown, PA, and sisters, Donna (Wilson) Baith of Royersford, PA, and Sandra (Kring) Leonard, and husband, Keith, of Perkiomenville, PA. She is also survived by a host of numerous nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall with Pastor Steve Salmon officiating.

Relatives and friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral chapel.
